General Concept of the Data Act API
Summary
The Miele Data Act API provides read-only access to data generated by supported Miele connected appliances. It is designed to enable customers and authorized third parties to access appliance data in a standardized and secure way.
Authentication
To use the Data Act API:
You need a Miele user account with supported registered appliances.
- Authentication is handled via OAuth 2.0.
- The Data Act API is available exclusively through the new Miele OAuth provider.
- Applications must request the mcs_dataact scope to obtain access to the Data Act API.
- API credentials can be generated in the "Get Involved" section of the Miele Developer Portal.
Access to appliance data is granted based on the authenticated Miele user and the appliances associated with that account. An application can only retrieve Data Act information for appliances for which the authenticated user has the corresponding access rights.
Best practice - Eventing
While appliance data can be retrieved through regular REST endpoints, applications should prefer the Server-Sent Events (SSE) endpoints whenever continuous or frequently updated appliance information is required. SSE allows applications to receive appliance data and state changes as they become available without repeatedly polling the API.
Using the event-based interface reduces unnecessary requests and enables applications to efficiently maintain an up-to-date representation of connected appliances. REST endpoints can still be used where appropriate, for example to retrieve an initial representation of an appliance or for use cases where continuous updates are not required.
