What is SPINE-IoT?
The SPINE-IoT API is designed in accordance with the European standard EN 50631 and the international standard IEC 63510.
These standards ensure interoperability, security, and scalability in the communication between Energy Smart Appliances (ESA) and Energy Management Systems (EMS).
It enables standardized communication between devices and energy management systems, laying the foundation for:
- Cross-manufacturer interoperability
- Optimized energy management
- Secure and scalable data models
- Intelligent control and automation
What will it offer?
With the SPINE-IoT API, you’ll be able to:
Secure Device Access
Use OAuth2 to link accounts and access devices safely and reliably.Discover Devices & Capabilities
Get a full overview of available appliances and what they can do – from dishwashers to dryers.Plan Flexible Start Times
Leverage the “Flexible Start for White Goods” use case to optimize energy usage by shifting appliance operations to cost-effective time slots.Real-Time Updates
Subscribe to device changes and receive instant callbacks when something changes.Manage Control Rights
Bind devices to your EMS to ensure exclusive control – with clear rules on who can do what.
Who is it for?
- EMS Providers: Gain standardized access to a wide range of appliances.
- Appliance Manufacturers: Make your devices future-ready for smart energy ecosystems.
- Developers: Work with clean, RESTful endpoints – no more proprietary chaos.
Looking Ahead
SPINE-IoT is modular and scalable. While it starts with home appliances, future use cases will include EV charging, solar integration, and more. The focus: interoperability, simplicity, and smart energy control.
